Yes. Prior to the opening of the Atal Tunnel, Sissu was cut off during winter. Today, Sissu remains accessible almost year-round, except during temporary closures for heavy snow clearance.
No Rohtang NGT permit is required to travel from Manali to Sissu via the Atal Tunnel. Unlike Rohtang Pass, normal passenger cabs and private cars can drive through freely, making it a hassle-free option.
Sissu sits at an altitude of 3,120 meters (10,235 ft). While most visitors adapt easily after staying a night in Manali (2,050 m), carrying water, staying hydrated and avoiding sudden exertion helps prevent mild dizziness.
Heavy snowfall occurs between December and March, turning the entire landscape white and freezing Sissu Lake. Snow patches often linger on the mountain slopes through May.
